Our Missions

We support a number of different missions both locally, nationally and around the world. If you would like to contribute to the work or support of these missions please contact the church office at the phone number at the bottom of the page.

Rome Area Thanks-giving Baskets:

  • Every year the Rome area collects food stuffs to provide baskets to those in need at Thanksgiving time.  The need seems to increase on a yearly basis.  We collect non-perishable food items and take them to the Rome Rescue Mission for distribution in the baskets.

GIVING TREES:

  • Angel tree – Decorated with tags for Rome children who will be helped through Rome Rescue Mission, Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army. The tags indicate the age and desired gifts for each recipient. The gifts must be returned and placed under the tree with tags attached to the purchased gifts (not wrapped) no later than December 14.
  • Mitten and Undies Tree – Place mittens, gloves, scarves, hats and socks, as well as underwear for boys or girls sizes 4-14 on this tree. They will be for children and adults in the Rome area.

CHRISTMAS OFFERINGS: You have two options for your special Christmas offering. Give to one or give to both, give as God directs you.

  • Regular Christmas Offering will be used for local church expenses.
  • Christmas is Not Your Birthday Offering. This offering will be split between Nexus Seminary, Uganda, and Blessings in a Backpack. The principle behind it is to not spend as much on ourselves, but to match what we give to family and friends with an equal dollar amount for Mission. We have seen great things because of this extra mile giving.
    • Nexus Seminary has graduated over 350 leaders since 2006. The fruits of Nexus Seminary have been wells, elementary schools, clinics and general community support in Uganda. God uses trained leaders to impact their village in the name of Jesus Christ.
    • Blessings in a Backpack is a special effort to send food home for children on the weekend. Food items are packed into a backpack so that each child has guarantee of something to eat over the weekend. The need is great. We are hoping to fund at least 25-30 backpacks for 2015. Most recent cost estimate is about $80 per child for the food for the school year. Blessings in a Backpack is a national program (blessinginabackpack.org) being administered at a Rome elementary school by the Presbyterian Church.

Envelopes for Christmas Is Not Your Birthday will be placed in the church bulletins during the month of December. You may also pick one up anytime at the church.

Our NATIONAL MISSIONS:

Our INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS:

  • NEXUS SEMINARY, Uganda. A pastor’s training program founded in 2006 by Pastor Alan Howe and his student and friend Rev. Davis Matovu. This Seminary has trained over 120 rural Ugandan pastors in 4 years and has from 50 – 100 pastors in process of training during any one year. It is provided free to the students, available to men and women, filled with practical and theological training. The classes are brought to the areas where a group of pastors will commit to the 20 courses and to helping others in their area. Check out www.Nexus-Seminary.com
  • Blessed Junior School Kirimandagi, Uganda. A village school started by Nexus Seminary graduate, Akoth Grace Owor (pastor), and her church in the Kirimandagi area. This school is the only one in the area and is educating around 250 students. Some families can help by paying fees, others cannot. A substantial portion of the children are orphans. This school has no government or outside support. It is a formerly war – torn area. The initial support we provided in early 2010 is being used to provide better classroom facilities for these precious children.
  • Busalumba,Uganda, Primary School and Church. This school and associated church, were started by Pastor Paul Muanguzi, a Nexus Seminary graduate, and his wife Teddy. The school has an enrollment of 100+students. The initial support in 2012 was used toward the school building. In 2014, a team of 8 church members partnered with local health care provider, Moses Ibanda, and assisted in a 2 day medical clinic for the students, staff and other members of the village.
