Pastor Brians update 6/28/2018

Good afternoon, Rome 1st UMC family,

I hope all is well with you. I ask that you be in prayer for the family and loved ones of Pastor Tom Hast. He was the pastor of Bartlett Baptist and Oneida Baptist churches. He died after being struck by a car earlier this week. He was a past president of the Rome Clergy Association. You can read about the accident here: http://romesentinel.com/public-safety/beloved-pastor-dies-in-accident-rev-dr-charles-tom-hast-succumbs-to-injuries-after-being-struck-by-car-one-week-into-retirement/QBqrfB!pLdlfJAPjrH2@xJ1vwEjvA/

  • Saturday is picnic day and I cannot wait! We will hold our congregational/neighborhood picnic starting at 11:30 a.m. We will need some help setting up. Come around 9:30 a.m. We will have a picnic on the church lawn (or indoors in the case of bad weather). The church will provide hot dogs and beverages. Feel free to contribute anything to compliment the meal. We will set up some fun activities and enjoy some musical entertainment. Call Martha Simonin at (315) 865-6680 or Gwyn Caldwell at (315) 336-4381 for more information.

  • Also, don’t forget to go to Rome 1st Baptist Church this Sunday at 10 a.m. for our combined worship service. Then, be sure to remember our summer worship time will be at 10 a.m. for July and August.

  • You may have notice a slight change in our bulletin. We added the scripture basket testimony back in, but we have renamed it to A Time of Testimony. I encourage you to continue to use the scripture basket as a way to focus on how God is moving in your life. However, this time can also be used for any kind of testimony you have. If God is moving in your life, we’d like to hear about it. Your testimony of God’s movement in your life reminds all of us just how good God is and how God is still moving among us today. Don’t be shy!

  • The annual United Methodist Night at the Ballpark will be held July 17 at NBT Stadium in Syracuse. The Syracuse Chiefs will play the Durham Bulls. A Upper New York Conference-wide tailgate party will precede the event. Bring a dish to pass, your own drinks, and table service. Hot dogs will be provided by United Methodist Men. Contact Rich Hartz for details and ticket information.

  • Vacation Bible School is coming up! We have teamed up with First Presbyterian Church again this year. The Presbyterians, 108 W. Court St., will host the event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 22-26. The theme is Water All Around the World. It will feature stories, games, crafts, songs, music, and more. Don’t worry about dinner those nights. A free meal will be served from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

  • Our Mohawk District Leadership Team is looking to compile a resource list for people and churches who would like to use their gifts and skills to bless those in our communities around the district. They are looking for a variety of skills, including but not limited to:
    – Audio and Visual Technology
    – Financial experience and those who might assist with annual audits
    – Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry & Safe Sanctuaries
    – Staffing and Employment related experience
    – Urban or Rural Ministry
    – Community Outreach

Let me know if you’d like to be added to such a list.

  • The Honor America Days parade and lawn sale will be held July 28. We need donations for the hot dog stand, bake sale, and tag sale.

Grace and peace,

-Pastor Brian
